Football prodigy Chandan Leaves For Germany

Bhubaneswar: Defying all odds Football prodigy Chandan Nayak of the temple city, finally boarded the flight to Germany on Wednesday to undergo training at Bayern Munich, one of the most iconic football training club in the world.

The 11 year-old prodigy, hailing from Sabar Sahi slum of the city, was selected for an all-expenses-paid junior football camp to Munich.

Chandan had faced many difficulties in getting his visa and passport as he had no birth certificate.

Chandan’s coach Jayadev Mohapatra said that he had to run from pillar to post to get the all-important visa for Chandan.

“Initially, there were a lot of trouble, but we got help from the state and central government. Chandan’s passport, visa and birth certificates were made within quick fire time,” said Mohapatra.

He also thanked Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Foreign Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj for their intervention in the matter which eased the process.
